Quack doctor arrested for killing 3-year-old girl

A quack medical practitioner has been arrested by the Nasarawa State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for allegedly killing a three-year-old girl through illegal blood transfusion. Mohammed Mahmoud-Fari, state commandant of the NSCDC disclosed this while parading the 27 years-old suspect, Muddansir Idris at the state command in Lafia on Monday. The suspect was arrested from the Kofan-Sarkin-Power area of Lafia following report from the parents of the deceased on Friday, Jan. 31, Mahmoud-Fari said. According to him, the suspect transfused blood to the child on the fateful day at a medicine store in the area. This, he confirmed resulted to bleeding from all her body openings, NAN reports. “Sensing danger, the suspect ran away and the baby was rushed to the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, where doctors tried frantically to save her life to no avail. “We were able to trace and arrest the suspect and also seal the premises,” Mahmoud-Fari said. 3 dead, 14 injured in Lagos - Ibadan highway crash

Three men, on Monday, died in a ghastly road accident along Lagos-Ibadan highway. DAILY POST gathered that 14 other persons sustained various levels of injuries in the accident that happened around Saapade axis of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Two vehicles were involved in the accident: a Mazda bus with registration number, AKD 53 XN, coming from Ibadan to Lagos and a Ford bus with registration number, GB 490 XA, coming from Lagos to Ikire. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement (TRACE) Corps, confirmed the accident to DAILY POST. TRACE Spokesperson, Cdr Babatunde Akinbiyi, told our correspondent that the two vehicles had a head-on collision due to speeding and reckless driving. The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Lagos State, Musiliu Akinsanya, also known as MC Oluomo, on Monday, reacted to the ban on commercial motorcycles and tricycles, popularly called Okada and Keke Napep by the state government. MC Oluomo disclosed that his team was meeting with the state government over the ban. He disclosed that the meeting was aimed at prevailing on the state government to review the ban. Recall that the Lagos State Government had placed a ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in some local government areas and local council development areas in the state. Member of the House of Representatives, Shina Peller, has weighed in on the ban of Okada and Keke by the Lagos State Government. Protests have so far broke out in the state amid the ban on the operations of commercial motorcycles and tricycles in six local government areas and nine local council development areas. The ban, which took effect from Saturday, February 1, had Lagos residents stranded at bus stops while others were seen walking to their respective destination. The House of Representatives says it will expose Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) that refuse to appear before it with their audited reports. NAN reports that the Chairman, Committee on Public Accounts, Rep. Wole Oke, disclosed this during an investigative public hearing into the audit reports of MDAs on Monday. The committee is investigating allegations of deliberate and reckless refusal by non-treasury funded MDAs to render accounts to the Office of the Accountant-General to the Federation (OAGF). “Any agency that is invited and refused to show up, we will name and shame such MDAs. A Federal High Court sitting in Makurdi, on Monday declared the Federal Government’s plan to establish RUGA Settlement and cattle colonies in Benue State as unwarranted, unlawful and unconstitutional. The court presided over by Justice Mobolaji Olajuwon, while delivering judgement, said any move by the Federal Government to compulsorily acquire land for RUGA Settlement or cattle colony in Benue State without the approval of the Benue State government was null and void. The suit was filed by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Benue State, Barrister Michael Gusa against the Attorney General of the Federation, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Minister of Agriculture. Okada ban: MC Oluomo warns commercial drivers against increase in transport fare as commuters groan

The Chairman of Lagos State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Alhaji Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya (MC-Oluomo), has warned commercial drivers against indiscriminate increase in transport fare over the ban of motorcycles and tricycles in some parts of Lagos State. The NURTW boss gave the warning in a statement on Monday, saying the warning became imperative following the complaints from members of public, alleging commercial drivers of taking advantage of the ban to inflict more pains on the commuters.
